The concept of removable hanging candle lanterns, as well as oil burning beakers, can be traced to the late 15th century in Tudor England. Bedrooms in particular were often furnished with a simple wood or iron hanging crossbar, called a candle beam, from which the lanterns would be suspended after having been transferred from one space to another. Added to this concept is a flourish of Art Nouveau linearity in the iron supports and glass shades resembling wrapped parchment. The result becomes a truly unique contemporary fixture
